Tarocchi degli Este

Tarocchi degli Este

By Cristina Dorsini

Tarocchi Sola Busca by C. Dorsini

Ferrara, the fifteenth century, in addition to the great cultural ferment, with the opening towards the oriental taste as well as towards for ancient culture and literature, and the passage of great artists Italian and transalpine, is rekindled the interest in the topics hermetic-alchemic themes.
It was during the duchy of Borso d'Este that the many fervors of cultural and artistic cultural and artistic fervor of the court, were transformed into a style peculiar style that gave life to the Workshop ferrarese.
Inside this style there is in addition, a refined language interwoven with enigmatic symbolic weaves. In this cultural and artistic climate, under the duchy of Ercole I d'Este, celebrated patron of art and culture, there is the birth of a deck of tarot cryptic and fascinating: the Tarot Sola Busca. Born in 1490 as a gift for an important Venetian family the Venier, still bring with them many mysteries.

I Tarocchi del Mantegna

By Cristina Dorsini

The book I Tarocchi del Mantegna (The Tarot of Mantegna) deals with these wonderful fifteenth-century Italian cards. For the first time, card by card is analyzed in detail by an art historian. The overall vision is incredible: a deck made in Ferrara in 1450 probably by Andrea Mantegna himself for the Duke of Ferrara Borso d'Este and in which there is a clear intent to celebrate the territory of Ferrara. The references to the artist are evident, such as the physiognomic rendering of the characters, the use of the engraving dear to Mantegna, the attention to the ancient and to Greek and Roman mythology. There are important and ancient sources for this tout court work, which in itself gathers art, culture and wisdom. These cards lead the user to begin an inner journey and analysis of himself, arriving at the sacred sphere. Immerse yourself in this fifteenth-century but absolutely modern journey.

I Tarocchi Visconti di Modrone, arte a Milano nel 1400

I Tarocchi Visconti di Modrone,
arte a Milano nel 1400

By Cristina Dorsini

Thirty-seven years after the first volume dedicated to the Viscounts of Modrone, comes to life in the 2018 a detailed analysis of the entire deck, which also touches the personality of the commissioner Philip Maria Visconti. An incredible art permeates these rich in family history, which is intertwined with the Milanese history of the 1400s: personalities are outlined the only ones who have written the history of costume, of the art and traditions of Milan and Lombardy 15th century. A text that describes this work in its various facets, going to touch the Milanese artistic environment Fourteenth century, its protagonists, their stories and their artistic techniques: one particular treatment is dedicated to what is probably seems to be the author of the work Michelino da Besozzo, other prominent personalities of the Tarot deck, of which they are put to the test. comparison of works with card details. I Tarocchi Visconti Brambilla Gli Zavattari alla corte Viscontea

I Tarocchi Visconti Brambilla
Gli Zavattari alla corte Viscontea

By Cristina Dorsini

After six hundred years for the first time in the world, the publishing house Il Meneghello unites the three Visconti decks: the result is an extraordinary deck of cards and a historical-artistic research that analyzes artistic aspects of Milan in 1400.
The main characters of this book are the Zavattari, a family of Milanese artists who worked for the Duke of Milan Filippo Maria Visconti, but wrapped in an aura of mystery, since few documents are related to their work and their own works. Despite this, the author manages to outline the characteristics of the style and connect their works with the Visconti Brambilla deck, the second of the three Visconti decks. All this is surrounded by a chapter on the late Gothic culture in Lombardy, which makes us understand the extraordinary treasure chest of riches that this region contains and a chapter that puts for the first time the look on the frescoes of players of in Italy in the courts of 1400.

I Tarocchi Visconti sforza

I Tarocchi Visconti Sforza
Milano dai Visconti agli Sforza

By Cristina Dorsini

Milan 1450, at the turn of the transition from the Visconti to the Sforza family, the city experienced moments of turbulence and conflict. It was the figure of a skilled strategist, Francesco Sforza, who brought Milan back into vogue and made it live a sort of golden age. And to celebrate his ascent to the throne as the new Duke of Milan, a bunch of tarots made by the court artists, who had already been for the Visconti family: the Zavattari brothers, was commissioned, as was customary for special occasions. The text is full of surprises, such as, for example, the use by the Zavattari brothers of the same compositional schemes used several times and on different occasions such as frescoes, tarot cards, paintings on wood; the use by the public of some fifteenth-century Sforza cards from a private collection, shown for the first time in the world to the public at large and made by the workshop of the Zavattari brothers, in which the compositional schemes of the Visconti Sforza deck return in a slavish manner. Finally, the author pays attention to the card of the Knight of Cups and the presence of two letters that could be the author's signature. A deck that leads the viewer to move between Milan and Ferrara, between art Christian medieval in eschatological perspective and Greek culture, mythology, astronomy. A deck to discover.
